ACEC Engineering Excellence Award

130521The American Council of Engineering Companies Orange County Branch, held their Annual Project Awards lunch this past month. The Circle Way Storm Drain and Stairs Repair Project won an Engineering Excellence Award. AndersonPenna performed the Project Management and Construction Management for this project, including the work required to obtain a Coastal Commission permit. The project is a storm drain outlet shore-protection system, intended to be the solution to decades of worries, property damage and impacts from El Niño weather patterns. Historical storms have caused two slope failures, undermining foundations and washing away portions of homes, personal belongings and up to 55 feet of Crescent Bay coastline. The project included a new 60-inch storm drain outlet, erosion protection foundation, a new beach access stairway and upgraded lighting.

Penna, PE as President and Chief Executive Officer.  Ms. Penna has been the primary architect of the company’s growth and success since 2009.  Lisa is a person of exceptional talent and equally exceptional humanity, and this appointment acknowledges her central importance to our company as we move ahead. Please join us in congratulating Lisa on this new role!

Before joining APP, Lisa spent over 25 years working in southern California as a utility engineer, contract City Engineer, professional construction manager and operations executive for southern California engineering firms. Lisa holds a BS degree in Civil Engineering from California State University Long Beach and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of California and Nevada. Lisa has been very involved teaching in the Public Works program at Rancho Santiago College, and mentoring and partnering with numerous colleagues throughout her career.

APWA Project of the Year Award

2012-12-12_Award PresentationThe City of Carson’s $4.8 M JMM Community Center facility improvements and energy efficiency project received a Project of the Year Award at the 13th Annual APWA Awards luncheon held December 12, 2013. AndersonPenna was the City’s construction management team for this project that transformed the facility into a modern, state of the art model of energy conservation and sustainability. Improvements included installation of 175 kW photovoltaic panels, replacement of four existing roof mounted HVAC units, 360 ton cooling tower, 54,000 sf of reflective re-roofing, and energy management, CCTV, and A/V system upgrades. The facility remained open and operational throughout construction.
